Majors B Division - 9-11 Baseball

Monday and Wednesday, 6 - 8pm

Players in this level are typically 9 and 10 years old. Some 11 year old's may also play Major B, based on their assessment scores and the agreement of the coaching committee that they would derive benefit from playing at the Major B level. This level is slightly less competitive and more developmental than Majors A. Majors B use the same field play rules as Majors A, however there will be some player use, substitution, and pitching rules in place to improve game flow. Players will also be moved through positions regularly in order to give them a more broad experience on the defensive side of the ball.

Jerseys, pants, belts and baseball caps are provided but the players must have their own baseball glove, batting helmet and protective cup. Rubber cleated shoes are mandatory.

2019 Assessments:

Date: Saturday April 6th

Location:  Men’s fastball diamond at Brennan Park (fully fenced field with scoreboard at the North End of the Park). If weather is uncooperative, assessments will be moved indoors to Don Ross Secondary School.

All players must have glove, helmet and “cup” protection.

1. Batters and batter on deck must wear helmets.

2. On deck batter must use the on deck circle behind the batter at the plate to minimize the chance of getting hit by a fould ball. All other players on the team that is batting must remain on or at the bench. No one except the batter and the on deck batter may have a bat in their hand.

3. Cups are mandatory for all players.

4. No jewelry, food or pop on benches or playing area.

Sportsmanship and Decorum

1. Coaches are expected to lead by example in regards to all matters of sportsmanship and decorum.

2. Please be sure to strongly discourage any down calling of the opposing players or umpires by coaches, parents or players. If a parent persist, the umpire can request that they leave the field. Coaches will be expected to assist the umpire in this regard.

3. Coaches should not complain about umpires' calls. If a coach has a concern about a call, he or she should take it up with the umpire after the game, in the spirit of teaching and learning, without regard to the outcome of the game. Even this should be done sparingly. If there are any serious complaints about an umpire's performance, this should be taken up with the Umpire Coordinator Brad Larson.

Game Rules

1. Except as modified by this document, conventional Little League rules will apply.

2. Ten players on the field ( nine plus rover ). Except when you have eleven kids then only play nine players on the field, no one should be sitting on the bench by themselves.

3. Each game will consist of several closed innings ( up to 5, usually about 3 ) and 1 open inning. Closed innings are defined as follows: each half inning is completed with three outs, batting through the entire order ( everyone bats whether they're playing on the field that inning or not ), or six runs, whichever comes first. Open innings are conventional baseball innings.

4. The game time will begin when the umpire calls "Playball". The open inning will be the start of the first inning after 75 minutes has been played. No inning will begin after the 75 minute time limit

5. An inning will continue until there are three outs or 5 runs are scored. The final inning or open inning continues until there are three outs.

6. A mercy rule will apply. If a team is winning by 15 runs, after 3 innings, the game is over.

7. Base running: No lead offs - stealing only after the ball crosses the plate - player caught is not out but must return to base of origin. Coaches should call this on their own players as umpires will rarely catch this infraction. Base runners must return to their base and may, in the discretion of the umpire, be called out if he does not.

8. Base stealing: In order to keep the game moving at a faster pace there is no stealing once the pitcher has the ball. If a base runner is off the bag and the pitcher doesn?t have the ball they must decide to either steal or get back to the bag.

9. Pitching: All updated Little League Pitching Rules will apply. Twelve year olds may not pitch at any time. An umpire may remove a pitcher if two batters are hit in one game and the umpire believes the pitcher has lost control. The pitcher's coach should also monitor this and remove their pitcher if safety is in question.

10. Players will not play more than 2 innings in a row in the outfield. Where situations arise that a team needs a capable backcather, the backcather can play more than 2 innings in that position.

11. Dropped 3rd strike: There will be no running to 1st on a dropped 3rd strike.

1. Home team is responsible for setting up the field.

2. Umpires are provided -  If the umpire does not show up, please make do with a parent or co-coach for that game.

3. Each team will have a minimum of 7 players to start a game or a forfeit will take place. Agreement to play the game will not change the forfeit.

4. Farm call-ups, farm leaguers should be utilized if a team knows in advance that they will be short.

5. Majors A' call-ups, players may be required in the Majors A Division. Please allow your stronger, older players to move to that level. Please get parental approval if possible.

6. Rain cancellation - should be called a minimum of one hour prior to 6:00pm start time. Please contact opposing coach to discuss - both teams should agree on the postponement. When this happens, try to arrange make-up games as soon as possible. It is up to the home team to contact the Umpire Coordinator. These make-up games are subject to field availability.

7. Season standings - ties in final standing to be broken as follows:
a. Won-lost percentage ( postponed games that are not made up will be entered as ties for both teams ).
b. Head to head win-loss record.
c. Head to head run differential.
d. Season's total run differential.
e. Coin toss.
